The non-stop fashion week ride hurtles towards Gauteng and Joburg Fashion Week. Nice to see Thesis are back on the schedule again. I first met the Thesis guys at the Soweto Showcase at the first spring/summer Joburg Fashion Week. Really nice guys and a great story (which they milked shamelessly and I admire them for it). They come from an area of Soweto that’s nicknamed Baghdad (similar levels of gun fire apparently) where they have a store selling their own brand as well as a couple of other Soweto designers. These guys have an entreprenurial fire to them and their collections are getting slicker – although this is street fashion not couture obviously. If you’re going to Joburg Fashion Week check these guys out!

Thesis at Joburg Fashion Week «
[...] I mentioned that Thesis were one to watch before fashion week. To recap they are a Soweto based label and store that first showed at the Soweto Showcase at the start of 2007. You can definitely see that they’re maturing as a label as they were pretty much just a t-shirt label to start off with. As well as running the label, and their ongoing obsession with dungarees, they also run a shop in Soweto selling other local designers. Couple of trends to note. Yup there is that neckerchief thing. And the tartan shirt – tartan is a bit of a micro-trend with the joburg/soweto fashion kids (see also the Ama Kip Kip boys). Nice shoes as well. [...]
